Latino Literacy Week Hosted by Lambda Theta Nu, featuring Maceo Montoya

Latino Literacy Week
Did you know?
-Every school day in America, 3,000 students drop out. The majority of them poor readers.
-Among 4th graders, 52% Hispanic/Latino students scored below “basic” on the National Assessment of Educational Progress reading test.
-Children in families with incomes below the poverty line are less likely to be read aloud to everyday than are children in families with incomes at or above the poverty line.
As part of our philanthropy, Tijeras, the lovely ladies of Lambda Theta Nu Sorority, Inc. at UC Davis invite the community to help us raise awareness of the realities of Latino Literacy. Last year, our organization raised $14000 and awarded our Tijeras grant to the Universidad YA!/College NOW!, an educational task force of the Hispanic Arts Council in St. Louis! This year, the proceeds will be donated to a literacy center in Washington D.C.
