This presentation will address how cultural workers within Chicana/o Studies frame their contributions and engagement with community. A discussion of Taller Arte del Nuevo Amanecer (tana.ucdavis.edu), it’s development, curriculum, and engagement, will be introduced.
Carlos Francisco Jackson is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Chicana/o Studies Department at UC Davis. Jackson is the founding Director of Taller Arte del Nuevo Amanecer, a community-based art center located in Woodland, Ca. Jackson is an artist and writer who has published two books Chicana and Chicano Art: Protest Arte and Mi America/My America. His writings and artwork are currently on view in the nationally traveling exhibition Estampas de la Raza.
